Real estate can be a very lucrative career path. For those that are energetic and great with people, this may be the perfect career option. A real estate agent can make a comfortable living in the Florida area. However, it does take a lot of time, work and energy to become successful in this career. Also, a willingness and ability to really socialize with those looking for property is a must. One must have the ability to not only talk with customers, but really get to know them to understand the right property for them. For those with this ability, the next step is getting a real estate license.
In Florida, a real estate license is necessary to enter the real estate business. This ensures that those dealing with the sale and purchase of real estate are qualified and capable of doing such. It also provides protections to the consumer, as well as the agent. The first step to licensing is to successfully complete the proper courses. A course approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission, or FREC, is necessary for licensure. This course consists of 63 classroom hours and covers various topics required by the FREC. This course is valid for two years after the completion date. After that time, one may be required to retake the course. The next step is to complete an application and submit it to the FREC with electronic fingerprints and all applicable fees. Once these things are completed, the examination can be taken.
To receive the real estate license, one must pass the Florida Real Estate Sales Associate Examination with a score of at least 70. This will allow a license to be issued, however, it must be activated or it will remain inactive. In addition to these steps, there is also a requirement to complete another 45 hours of coursework to maintain the license. This must be done before the expiration date on the initial license. These steps help ensure a thorough knowledge in the laws and processes that must be followed in the real estate business. Once completed, a potentially very lucrative career can begin.
